About the event

We are delighted to host the second Winter Webinar on the topic of ‘Beauty and the Bioeconomy’. The aim is to give a snapshot of what is needed to help entry into the cosmetics, beauty and personal care industry for academics, start-ups and entrepreneurs from the bioeconomy. The webinars focus on various aspects of the introduction of cosmetic raw materials with information covering concept and claims, IP, funding, market access and what cosmetic brands are looking for to meet their requirements. Part 1 was on 26th November and the recording is available.


Part 2 is on 28th January at 2pm.

Jo Chidley

Meet Jo - sustainability expert, chemist, herbal botanist and of course, the Founder of Beauty Kitchen. Her in-depth knowledge and years of experience puts us at the forefront of building the most sustainable beauty products in the world.


Dr Chris Elms

My name is Chris Elms, and I am the Prototype Development Manager for the No7 Beauty Company, based at our headquarters in Nottingham

I have been a cosmetic scientist for over 30 years, currently working on Scientific Brands such as No7 and Botanics, but I have also spent 13 years working in contract manufacture on private label brands for supermarkets, brands and retailers. I started in the Colour cosmetic space, dabbled in haircare, and for the last 20 years have been working almost exclusively in skincare. I am married with 2 sons and I live in the Vale of Belvoir in north Leicestershire.


Amanda Isom

Amanda Isom has over 25 years of experience in the cosmetic industry and is a trusted expert in European/UK Cosmetics Regulation and compliance. Having spent two decades at the Cosmetic, Toiletry and Perfumery Association (CTPA), Amanda developed strong connections with government officials and enforcement officers, ensuring a deep understanding compliance landscape. During her time in industry, Amanda has been actively involved in a number of industry and stakeholder

groups and co-edited the SCS/Royal Society of Chemistry book on ‘Discovering Cosmetic Science’. Today, Amanda leads the Regulatory team within Bloom using her wealth of knowledge and experience into practice, ensuring clients receive a high level of service and guidance in navigating the complex regulatory landscape.


Stewart Eccles

Stewart is a Partner at Hepworth Browne, a boutique firm of patent and trademark attorneys. Stewart has over 15 years of experience working in the formulation, pharmaceutical and fine chemical fields. Working primarily with start-ups, SMEs, universities and individuals, Stewart is acutely aware of the challenges faced by new companies. Stewart’s goal is to provide focussed and pragmatic advice allowing the development of an effective and appropriate patent strategy.


Dr Jen Vanderhoven

Jen graduated from The University of Sheffield, with a first-class Masters of Biological Sciences in 2004 and a PhD in Biochemistry in 2007. With a 20-plus year progressive career in biotechnology, spanning both higher education and the commercial sector, Jen has held roles in research and development, sales and marketing, business development, and business change and transformation. Jen is currently the COO of the BBIA, and runs her own successful biotechnology consultancy, FREY, which provides expert advice in business development, fundraising, stakeholder engagement, strategic partnerships, policy development, marketing & communications and project management for the biotech sector.
