CCUK were well represented at In Cosmetics this year with Gill, Katerina, Rachael and Alastair all attending. Alastair presided over the DBT’s UK pavilion (pictured) with 10 companies sharing the stand, including CCUK members Biomara and Melbec Microbiology. Other companies included Oceanium, Bridge Farm Bioscience, ISCA Cosmetic Testing, Gravel AI, Biopolax, Naturbeads, Revive Eco, and Citrefine International.

The CCUK team tried to get round all our exhibiting members and also met several UK companies to introduce them to CCUK.
Gill gave a talk in the Marketing Trends Hall which was very well attended and generated interest in CCUK, as well as the hair follicle! All the show talks can be searched using this link https://www.in-cosmetics.com/global/en-gb/show-programme.html#/sessions/day/0
Some highlights from the show included:
Relevant to the CCUK R&I Pillar is 'longevity' with 'well-ageing' and 'healthspan' being used in communications emphasising the mind-body connection and ingredient links to mind/sleep/emotional benefits were presented as well as skin:brian:gut, neuroimmunology and neuroscience.
N.B CCUK hosts an in person event on September 10th in Liverpool as part of our series exploring psychodermatology interactions in the beauty industry. Visit the following link to register: Bringing Psychodermatology into Personal Care | Cosmetics Cluster UK
Simplification in formulations is a popular trend with brands, where one product/ingredient can do many things. CCUK’s project ‘Totally made in the UK’ also explores how easy (or not) it is to source all raw materials from one country.
The blue economy is new as a category and seaweed ingredients that have anti-oxidant and anti irritant properties were presented e.g. Fucoidan from Biomara. This area is predicted to grow as farmed seaweeds and microalgae are very sustainable.
N.B CCUK will participate in a 2 day event in Oban in September 23/24, co-hosted by the Canadian Cosmetics Cluster and SAMS. Further details here: https://www.canadiancosmeticcluster.com/beauty-by-the-sea-project.html
The Microbiome remains a strong topic, with more companies now offering microbiome-friendly testing for products, including our member, Melbec Microbiology. Research still focuses on correlations of microbial composition with skin health.
Biotechnology is very prominent for new ingredient manufacture to produce biosimilars or to replace ingredients from fossil fuels, like biosurfactants from our member, Holiferm - alongside safer and greener ways to extract plant derived actives using Green Chemistry. The Green Chem Finder was soft launched by new CCUK member the Green Chemist - Barbara Olioso.
AI use was also prominent and companies like Covalo and Gravel AI are helping brands navigate the ingredients landscape. Gill and Alastair explored opportunities with Yann Chilvers of Covalo for UK companies to be highlighted through the platform.
The testing zone was well attended as usual, with the SkinObs testing platform a very useful resource (https://www.skinobs.com/). CCUK member Labskin exhibited their excellent skin models and gave away great fibroblast key rings! Anne Charpentier of Skinobs moderated an excellent panel session on safety and efficacy testing, including CCUK member Sequential Bio.
in-Cosmetics Global returns to Paris next year on April 14-16.

BioMara Unveils Revyntra: A Premium Fucoidan Active
Seaweed biotech startup BioMara, announced the official launch of its flagship cosmetic ingredient – Revyntra – at in-cosmetics global in Amsterdam.
Revyntra is a premium high-purity fucoidan extracted from regeneratively farmed seaweed designed for skincare and haircare applications. Research-backed and traceable, Revyntra delivers targeted cosmetic benefits at low inclusion rates:
Hydration - Reinforces the skin’s natural moisture barrier for long-lasting radiance.
Antioxidant - Fights free radicals to defend against signs of premature aging.
Protection - Defends against environmental stressors.
Developed for use in serums, creams, masks, and hair formulations, Revyntra is undergoing independent in vitro testing for anti-inflammatory, anti-aging, anti-oxidant, collagen-boosting and “kind-to-skin” claims.
“Revyntra is the result of years of R&D optimising extraction to unlock the potential of seaweed extracts for health,” said Jay Dignan, CEO of BioMara. “There is surging demand across the cosmetics industry for natural research-backed active ingredients. Revyntra answers that call - combining efficacy and sustainability in one hero ingredient.”
Fucoidan is a complex sulphated polysaccharide naturally found in brown seaweeds abundant in UK waters. BioMara’s proprietary extraction process preserves the integrity and bioactivity of its fucoidan, resulting in a high-performance ingredient. The process is also zero-waste, enabling the co-extraction of other seaweed-derived ingredients.
BioMara’s seaweed is sourced from regional regenerative seaweed farms, ensuring a traceable supply chain that supports coastal communities and enhances ocean health. Seaweed cultivation requires no freshwater, no arable land, and no chemical inputs, and actively improves marine ecosystems.
With the launch of Revyntra, BioMara aims to be a trusted supplier of marine actives for the global cosmetics market.
