Welcome to this month's newsletter! The CCUK team is still buzzing from the success of the Innovation in Action Technology Showcase at the 32nd IFSCC Congress in London last month (see below). We were delighted with the quality of entries and congratulate the winners - PBL Ltd with their waterless sheet technology (DRIES), which turns into a skin care product with water on the skin. The showcase provided a lively backdrop to a science-filled symposium. As the judges noted, when showcasing their brands and technologies to the scientific audience, the participants showed their enthusiasm and entrepreneurial spirit. This is something we truly celebrate at CCUK. Thanks also to all the judges involved in the pre-selection of the finalists and on the day.
The breaking news on the evening of Thursday 8th September 2022, of our dear Queen's passing, has deeply affected many. Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II touched the lives of so many and was the embodiment of kindness, humility, selflessness and unity. We join the rest of the nation in mourning the loss of our monarch, who served us all with such dignity and warmth for more than seventy years. We also extend our best wishes to the new King Charles III as he begins his reign.
Cosmetics Cluster UK delayed our first e-newsletter after the summer break last week as a sign of respect. The last quarter of 2022 brings many exciting activities and we extend a warm invite to participate in our packed autumn schedule.
This month we are delighted to announce the opening of entries in our collaboration with the Society of Cosmetic Scientists (SCS) at the IFSCC 2022 congress in London. Full details later in this newsletter. Please share and spread the word with your networks about this exciting Innovation In Action Technology Showcase Challenge. You only have until July 19th to enter, so don’t hesitate!

On 27th June we had an in-person board meeting in York to discuss plans and activities for the second half of the year and beyond. We will be sharing these with our members soon. If you want to be part of our growing membership from all along the cosmetics industry value chain, from research, to raw materials, to retail, then join us soon! This month, we introduce our latest new members, Adstral Fulfilment, Xias Bio and Leaf Expression Systems.
CCUK is an association for everyone in the cosmetics industry supply chain and we are able to act as a bridge between the industry and different sectors, such as academia and the bioeconomy, allowing knowledge to flow along the value chain. This has been demonstrated this month by two activities connected to the Research & Innovation pillar, led by Dr Katerina Steventon (NBIC) and Dr Gill Westgate (University of Bradford). We are also delighted to announce the call for entries in an ‘Innovation in Action Technology Showcase Challenge’ session to be co-hosted with the organisers at IFSCC 2022 in London in September. Read all about these activities later in this newsletter.
April has been a busy time with trade shows and exhibitions and in person meetings in full swing and finally happening at last! All being well it looks like this will be set to continue as the year goes forward and we hope to see you at an upcoming event soon and we will also plan to hold in person networking events for our members the first time. See the Events diary for more details of where we will be and what we are planning. However, our thoughts are very much with those whose lives are still impacted by Covid-19 and the recent distressing developments in Ukraine. On a happier note, we wish Her Majesty the Queen all the best for her recent 96th birthday and for the forthcoming Platinum Jubilee celebrations.
This month we celebrate the arrival of Spring with the announcement that Dr Katerina Steventon(Independent Skincare Consultancy) is joining CCUK as a Director. After working with her on a successful series of webinars in her role at NBIC, most recently on March 29, we are delighted to welcome Katerina to lead the Research & Innovation pillar at CCUK.
This month we say goodbye to Lisa Buck, who has made the difficult decision to stand down as a Director of CCUK. Lisa was one of the founders of CCUK and before that was a founder of the successful chemical process industries membership organisation, YCF Ltd.
As we start out on our journey into 2022, we are excited to be partnering with a number of organisations in the months ahead, some existing and a couple of new partners. More information to follow! We see CCUK playing a unique role, serving as a bridge connecting organisations and allowing for knowledge to flow along supply chains. We are getting ready to hold our first in-person event on February 16 in York, in partnership with BioVale.
