Back in June, our CCUK director, Carmen Lerga visited the Leeds office of Gateley IP to meet
with Rob Lucas and Katherine Wright of the company. The meeting was an opportunity to learn
more about Gateley’s expertise and to hear suggestions and feedback on their CCUK
experience so far.
Gateley IP is part of the wider Gateley group, bringing together trademark attorneys, patent
attorneys, and legal specialists under one cohesive brand. The team supports businesses
across the cosmetics and personal care sector, helping to protect innovation, strengthen
brands, and navigate the legal landscape with confidence.
With expertise spanning chemistry, life sciences, and engineering, Gateley IP works closely with
companies developing formulations, technologies, and products, ensuring intellectual property is
identified, protected, and leveraged effectively.
A key focus for the team is helping businesses understand the value of IP early in their journey.
From patents and trade marks to contracts and brand protection, Gateley IP supports
organisations in safeguarding the intangible assets that ultimately drive company value, particularly when it comes to investment, growth, or acquisition.
As part of the broader Gateley group, the offering extends beyond IP. The team provides legal
and commercial support across contracts, employment law, international trade, and business
operations, giving members access to a comprehensive, joined-up service.
Gateley IP is particularly passionate about working with SMEs and startups. The team prides
itself on being approachable and supportive, offering guidance from the early stages of product
development through to market launch and beyond. This includes helping businesses navigate
complex processes such as patent filing, freedom-to-operate assessments, and IP enforcement.
Through their work in the cosmetics sector, Gateley IP has supported both global brands and
smaller businesses, from ensuring products can be launched without infringing existing rights,
helping business to obtain and protect their own rights, through to advising on and obtaining
trademark and brand protection.
Within Cosmetics Cluster UK, Gateley IP aligns strongly with the pillars of innovation, education,
and international collaboration. The team is keen to contribute to webinars, events, and practical
initiatives that help members better understand IP, legal considerations, and business growth
strategies.
What Gateley IP values most about CCUK is the collaborative and friendly community, as well
as the opportunity to connect with businesses across the cosmetics ecosystem. From networking events to educational sessions, the team enjoys engaging with members and
sharing knowledge that supports innovation across the industry.
Looking ahead, Gateley IP is keen to continue supporting the CCUK network through
educational content, event participation, and collaboration, helping businesses at every stage
protect their ideas and realise their full commercial potential.
