This month’s Cosmetics Cluster UK news highlights two significant reports shaping conversations across the beauty, personal care and wider bioeconomy sectors.

One of the key developments this month is the publication of our joint report with the Bio-Based and Biodegradable Industries Association (BBIA): Bio-Beauty – The Future of Engineering Biology in UK Cosmetics.” The report is the result of ongoing collaboration through the Beauty & the Bioeconomy Taskforce, established in 2024 to explore how engineering biology and sustainable innovation can help shape the future of the cosmetics industry.

The Taskforce focuses on three priority areas:

  • Developing sustainable, biodegradable ingredients to replace petrochemicals

  • Advancing green biotechnology and fermentation-based production

  • Designing eco-friendly packaging solutions that support circularity and reduce waste

We’re particularly pleased that several CCUK members contributed to the report and feature within its case studies, helping demonstrate the innovation and expertise already taking place across the sector.

This month also marks Sun Awareness Week and the publication of an important new report from the APPG for Beauty, Hair and Wellbeing: A Preventable Crisis: The Case for a National UV Safety Strategy.”

The report highlights the growing need for a coordinated national approach to UV safety, particularly as melanoma cases continue to rise across the UK. It calls for greater awareness, stronger education and a more joined-up strategy around UV protection and prevention.

Alongside these industry developments, we’re also delighted to welcome two new members to the CCUK network: ✨ Stort GroupArcus Compliance

We look forward to welcoming them to future cluster activities, including our annual in-person networking day taking place on 25 June at the University of Bradford.
